RiverBeds AT Dragon’s Tooth estate, Scotland
Over the years, we have stayed at quite a few places. Big or small, none of them seem to come even close to how Dragon’s Tooth Estate made us feel. While looking for ‘the next bed for the night’ during our escapade around the whole of Scotland, we have stumbled upon a great offer to stay in one of the Riverbeds lodges for a couple of nights.
Initially these tiny lodges did not look like much but then …
The first night
After the first, incredibly comfortable night in bedding made of an Egyptian Cotton, with stunning, delicate, colourful lighting and a wonderful hum of the nearby river, we have instantly changed our perception on the place. The way these little lodges are constructed and shaped sparked our interest, but I can ensure you that there is soooo much more to it than just the looks.
On the inside
Although the lodges are rather small, one could even say cramped, we have managed to hide all our luggage, all the photography and recording equipment and still have enough space to freely move around the lodge.
In a truly Scandinavian style, the Riverbeds are full of little hidden lockers as well as larger cupboards to accommodate for everything you may bring with you.
Is it all perfect?
The only slightly negative part of our stay at the Riverbeds was the weather. Although it was raining throughout our whole stay the atmosphere in the lodges made it a wonderful experience. We actually preferred to stay in, instead of site seeing.
The combination of a stunning window view on Loch Linnhe, delicate humming of the river right by the entrance, incredibly friendly staff and tasty breakfast with freshly brewed coffee made our day. We even managed to have a breakfast on the porch right before we left.
There has to be a ‘but’… right?
Overall our experience of the Riverbeds was very much positive BUT – there must be a ‘but’ otherwise it would not be a true review 😉 – the price per night in the middle of Scottish touristic season may be out of budget of many of us – not to say that it is something out of ordinary for holiday destinations. All places we have stayed in over the two weeks of our trip, were very much affordable in the winter and 3 to 5 times more expensive in the season and so we did not really expect anything different here. After checking prices in other times of the year, I feel that we were very lucky to stay there for the price we have paid, but it is a matter of searching at the right time in the right place so don’t give up! 🙂
Riverbeds offer a rare experience of piece and quiet in lovely surroundings. It is definitely relaxing and perfect for a secret getaway, especially for couples looking for a bit of alone time – wink wink 😉 … It is also lovely to get away from the everyday ‘rat race’ and constant issues and decisions.
Despite all of the above, it is a personal judgement, how much this kind of experience is worth. I feel that the faster you live the more you need some time away from it all, to simply stop, have a break and recharge your internal batteries.
You can spend a wonderful time with your loved one or on your own at the Riverbeds, but I would definitely advise to hunt around for some last minute deals to find a price within your budget. Depending on the time of the year, it can be really easy to find amazing offers for places which normally would cost an arm and leg!
