Glenfinnan in winter, Scotland
Glenfinnan was the last “must see” place on our list during our trip around Scotland. The day we picked to go there was very rainy so we couldn’t explore it as much we wanted. We have decided to take a walk and get a little closer to the train tracks and the view point. Both Glenfinnan and Loch Shiel look amazing from this location. Even the rain did not manage to make our day miserable – it gave this place a magical mood.
Why was GLENFINNAN on our “must see” places?
This amazing viaduct was built in 1897-1901 and was one of the largest engineering projects of that time, it is also the longest concrete railway bridge in Scotland (380m). The highest point of the bridge measures 30 meters. The beauty of this place was fully appreciated when the movie directors decided to use this location to film. The Ring of Bright Water, Charlotte Gray, The Monarch of the Glen, Stone of Destiny, and the most famous, four parts of the Harry Potter film series were all filmed here! You can also find it on the Scottish 10 pound note!
Let me know how do you like this place?
